The film is loosely based on a popular Japanese film of the same name and was released on 2 April 2006. The movie saw a great commercial success, grossing an estimated 3.07 billion worldwide.
The film received generally positive reviews from critics, and was the third highest grossing Indian film in its opening weekend.
Plot
A young, aspiring singer goes missing in the midst of a performance at a beauty contest. The police are convinced it's murder but the fact that the corpse is never found suggests that it is an elaborate hoax and that the singer may still be alive. The owner of the contest, Shrivastav, hires an ex-intelligence officer, CBI inspector Joshi, to find the body. Meanwhile, a female singer and Joshi's love interest, Zoya, is aghast when Joshi tries to pull her into his investigation. She sees Joshi's cynicism and her father's unfulfilled dream of fame for his daughter in the investigation.
Joshi finds himself in another bizarre plot twist: The singer is actually a man, a police informer who has been in love with Joshi for years and wanted to trap him in a lie. Joshi is forced to work with a cunning killer to find the truth.
The movie opens with a song "Humko Deewana Kar Gaye", which is a remake of a famous Japanese song, and showcases the personality traits of Joshi.
